There was ice on Cutler Pond today, the first time I’ve seen that this year. It wasn’t frozen solid, but only perhaps 30% of it was open water. There was a pair of hooded mergs on the Charles, pretty far upstream. There are still lots of whitethroats around, and a couple of downy woodpeckers were very obvious.<\/p>\n

I like walking at this temperature, just below freezing. I’d much rather have frozen or partly frozen ground underfoot than mud.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
